I’ve never been all that interested in broadcasted sports other than during the Olympics, but who doesn’t get excited over the Olympics? Football was always way to painful to watch, basketball was tedious, baseball monotonous, golf unbearable…you see where I’m going with this? I could never really just sit down and watch a whole game because I would just get bored in ten minutes. I could never figure out how my dad could just watch hours of baseball or football; it was completely alien to me. However, this entire perspective of mine has completely changed with the upcoming world cup in south africa. As most of my friends would know, I’ve become addicted to korean culture, to the point where I know I want to study abroad there. I’ve always heard other koreans talk about the 2002 World Cup as a moment in history for korean soccer, but I’ve never really realized the impact it had on the nation as a whole until now. Remnants of their victory from 2002 still lingers in society today, and I’ve now become a huge fan for the Taeguk Warriors. :] I’ve always had a soft spot for underdogs achieving the supposed “impossible,” and South Korea did just that in the 2002 World Cup. So come time for the World Cup to start on June 11, I’ll be sporting my red tshirt [sorry UCLA] and cheering with the best of them. 3 in the morning live broadcasts here I come! Go Reds!!!
